Resident builder needed for ever evolving serverless site. Flexible hours available!
We’re looking for a passionate software engineer with a proven track record delivering beautiful fast loading sites that delight new customers and potential badgers alike.
You’ll be working with our friendly in house team to maintain and build upon our existing site, adding new functionality and content . You will have a keen eye for detail and delivering regular updates in a timely manner, keeping your immediate team closely on board with progress.
The ideal new badger will have around 4 years experience working with a number of languages and frameworks and be comfortable leading the build whilst working with our client side engineers who have rotated off project.
You will be working in a cross functional team alongside designer and testers and well as the Marketing team who’ll be helping define new areas of the site and creating new content.
We lean heavily on open source and encourage our developers to contribute and be active, engaged members of the community. We also open source our own projects. The site you work look after will be open source too, take a look here: https://github.com/redbadger/website-honestly
We don't dictate how you work at Red Badger, each team is totally autonomous and entrusted to make the right decisions.
As a Red Badger software engineer you will allow each solution to drive the technology choice, not the other way around. You will be technology agnostic and choose the right tool for the job.
Some of our favourite tech at the moment includes:
- Git, Github
- ES6, Ruby, Node.js, Go, Clojure,
- React.js, Elm, Flow
- Sass, CSS Modules, CSS-in-JS, PostCSS
- Mocha, Sinon, Chai, RSpec
- ElasticSearch, Redis, DynamoDB, PostgreSQL
- Docker, AWS Stack, Heroku, Terraform, Serverless
- Responsive (and Adaptive) Layouts
- RESTful APIs and GraphQL
For a more detailed list, check out our tech page.
While the above is our favourite tech we are pragmatic enough to choose the right tool for the job. We know not everyone has had the chance to work with our favourite tech so that shouldn't stop you from applying; above all we are keen to hear from experienced well-rounded engineers.
How we work
We work in close, multi-disciplined teams made up of some of the industry’s best UX designers, digital designers, engineers, testers and delivery leads. We always work in an agile manner, mostly Kanban these days. We look to continuously improve our lean processes and are always looking for a better way to do things.
We are looking for someone who is happy to lead the build of this project and work in house with a rotating team around you. The ideal candidate will be happy to take charge but also delegate new work to engineers that rotate onto your team from our client as working alongside a dedicated Inhouse team of designers and a delivery lead.
The best bit about Red Badger is, of course, the team. We’ve been around for 7 years now and we are nearly 90 strong. We are really proud of our team; we support and learn a lot from each other; we work really hard but have fun doing it. We are a diverse group made up of 22 different nationalities and we are speaking 17 different languages.
We were founded by 3 guys who have considerable tech and consultancy experience and still own 100% of the company. We’ve been consistently profitable and have grown responsibly from the beginning.
We are based at Old Street in the heart of “tech city” and get thoroughly stuck in with the brilliant community around us. We run several meetups including the hugely popular React London, invite other groups to host their events in our office such as Lua London and Ladies Who Code and speak at events like Digital Shoreditch and LNUG.
We make sure our team is well looked after with generous salaries and a great benefits package which includes -
- Annual £2K training budget
- Generous Pension
- Group Life Insurance
- Income Replacement Benefit
- Critical Illness Cover
- Private Medical Insurance
- Your choice of hardware and mobile phone
- Matched (pre tax) charity PAYE donations
- Open source contribution scheme
Please let us know if you require any reasonable adjustments ahead of your screening calls or in person interview.
Red Badger is proud to be an equal opportunities employer and we're dedicated to hiring and developing a diverse workforce
